Creativity
Creativity is unique because everyone inherently has a different form or means of exhibiting creativity as all our brains are wired differently. Creativity is essentially being able to think outside the box which is invaluable to an employer as endless creativity means endless possibility. The originality that comes from creativity is what fosters innovation and in a way, it becomes contagious as one person’s good idea can lead to a chain reaction of good ideas. Part of what can be scary about engaging in creativity is that it might require doing something that might initially be seen as something odd or wrong. This sense of going against the grain can certainly be off-putting and discouraging, however, when we do engage and make something revolutionary it’s later widely accepted. When I think of creativity, oddly, my mind jumps around to a number of different topics ranging from artists to thinking entrepreneurs on Shark Tank looking for their big break. Who are often repeatedly told that their product or their work “isn’t good enough” yet have to find the internal strength to push through this and have and rely on self-confidence and determination until others finally see the vision they always had. As a society, I think we tend to self-select and believe things that we ourselves can’t comprehend or come up with to be impossible, which can lead to a fairly cynical/negative outlook that squashes and further discourage creativity. In this regard we need to constantly be checking ourselves and expanding our definitions of possibility as so many of the things we have today would have been seen as impossible one hundred years or so ago. In terms of another form of creativity coming from the meshing of disciplines and really looking at the intersections and what they’re telling you is certainly a form of creativity I hope to partake in the future as these crossroads have always been the places that most fascinate me. In developing skills to learn how to think and view things from multiple perspectives, the conclusions and my own ideas are a form of creativity and is both telling and revealing of individuality. It’s important to embrace creativity and view it as a challenge to overcome and tackle head-on as when you have trust and conviction in your own ideas and by extension control over your creativity you’re unstoppable. This is where I think the phrase if there is will there’s a way is extremely applicable.
